Frank Whitely Jr.'s breakout season brought goals, headlines, and — inevitably — attention from people with no formal role in his career at all. Spencer Voss, a self-described “lifestyle and brand consultant,” is the most persistent of them.

Spencer has no contract with Frank, no relationship with Sheffield Blades, and no sanction from Frank's actual representation. He does have a phone Frank answers, and a growing list of nightclub appearances and sponsorship shoots booked in Frank's name, several the night before Saturday fixtures.

Frank's form has dipped noticeably across his last five matches. His sleep, by his own admission to a club physio, has too. His agent has now formally asked, in writing, that no appearances be booked within 48 hours of a game.

Frank says Spencer's just “good energy” and that he can handle both. Nobody around him at the club currently agrees.
